Joe DeMare, Treasurer of the Green Party of Erie County and the Party's authorized spokesman on the casino issue, today blasted the agreement between the Seneca tribal council and Governor Pataki.

"Casinos would be the kiss of death for our region." says Mr. DeMare. The hotels, bars, gas stations and other tax-free businesses that will be created in association with the casino will drive the few remaining businesses in downtown Buffalo and Niagara Falls into bankruptcy."

"One of the Green Party's fundamental principles is putting People before profits. Casinos are pure 'Profits before People' because they depend upon a hard core of addicted gamblers to maintain their revenue stream. They are, in fact, evil and those who are forcing them upon us without a vote, without representation, are doing evil by bringing a new social problem to a region that already has enough."
